Lake Oswego Skate Park Murals

I’ve been wanting to take pictures of the new murals at the Lake Oswego Skate Park but our weather hasn’t cooperated.  Finally, on one of our perfect Portland ’10′ weather days, I got to take some pictures. The Lake Oswego Youth Action Council & Fellow Student Artists 2012 unveiled a permanent art installation at the city skate park on National Skate Day, June 21.

The murals resulted from four weeks of work, totaling 40 hours per mural. Students from both Lake Oswego and Lakeridge high schools received volunteer hour credits for their efforts. Students were guided by Cydny Winslow, teen and youth program coordinator for Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation. Winslow worked closely with skate park coordinator Chris Hancock on the location of the murals.

Winslow was assisted by recent Lake Oswego High School graduate MaKenzie Reed, who works at the teen lounge teaching Thursday evening art classes to middle schoolers. If you’ve noticed from my photo blogs and real estate blogs, I love murals. These are vivid and beautiful. I enjoyed them even more knowing the students from Lake Oswego painted them.

Sirens By Toparovsky

These sirens (Thelxiepeia, Parthenope and Agalope) are at Millennium Plaza Park in lighted niches along the walkway from the upper portion of the park to the lower part of the park on State Street.

Simon Toparovsky was also involved in the designing of Millennium Plaza Park. All the pieces in the park are related to the Myth of Icarus. His other pieces in Millennium Plaza Park are Fortuna, The Three Graces, The Flight of Icarus, and all of them have been posted here too.

Icarus Falling.lakeoswegolivingphotoblog.wordpress.com

Icarus Falling

This piece of art is on the back wall of Lake View Village below Manzana’s Restaurant. I just found out it is by the artist Simon Toparovsky, the same artist who is the creator of 19 other pieces of art in Millennium Plaza Park and the designer of that park as well.  I had it mislabeled previously and wanted to properly give credit to Simon Toparovsky.  It is a life-size cast-iron piece of art.

 Age of Iron.lakeoswegolivingphotoblog.wordpress.com

Age Of Iron

This sculpture called Age of Iron is part of the City of Lake Oswego’s permanent art collection. This piece of art sits on the Cline-Kinyon Corridor, a pathway in downtown Lake Oswego, dedicated to two public employees. Cline (1969) and Kinyon (1973) both retired in the early 2000s.

Tom Hardy is the artist of this sculpture who describes it as “welded metal placed in harmony” and is made of reclaimed steel.

Gallery Without Walls

In October 2009, I set out on a goal to photograph every piece of art and sculpture within the Gallery Without Walls in Lake Oswego.  I photographed all the rotating exhibits, the permanent art collections and People’s Choice winners from 2009 until now.  I have finally accomplished and completed that goal.

This is the last of the photographs from the Gallery Without Walls until July 2012 when an additional 15 sculptures will be presented by the City of Lake Oswego as a part of the on-going rotating exhibit.

I must have a “thing” for artichokes as I took a picture of some at the Lake Oswego Farmers Market last year too. These however, are from Luscher Farm last summer. A reminder that sunnier days are coming soon.

Happy Halloween From Luscher Farm Scarecrows.lakeoswegolivingphotoblog.wordpress.com

Happy Halloween From Luscher Farm Scarecrows!

You see scarecrows everywhere up at Luscher Farm and one is more creative than the other!

Love the “lady” – she actually has some bling which doesn’t show in the picture – a true Lake Oswego lady.  There were some scarecrows who had heads from plastic milk jugs, especially appropriate since this is a historic dairy farm.

The Lake Oswego Garden club spent two days creating 85 scarecrows including 21 children scarecrows at Luscher Farm this past year.

Railroad Trestle Bridge

View towards the north just a couple of days ago.  The weather was gorgeous. I tracked the bridge on Google maps.  It crosses the Willamette River here close to Foothills Park, Lake Oswego and ties into Portland’s vast railroad system.  It’s called the Riverwood Trestle Bridge and spans 686′.

WAITING

Every time I pass this stretch of railroad tracks I see this rusty machinery (or equipment) just sitting and waiting.  There are dozens lined up all the way down the railroad track as far as the eye can see.

I don’t know what they are but thought of the real estate market and how everyone seems to be waiting for the economy to improve so I took this picture ”just because”.

Do you know what this equipment is and why they are waiting?  At Pilkington and Upper Boones Ferry Road in Lake Oswego.
